C04: Ultrafast electric control of optical polarizations and transitions

What is the challenge of my research project? Why am I eager to do it?
I am working on an optical nanoantenna with the purpose of achieving high directive gain in the optical regime. I investigate the use of guided modes with such a structure to obtain a better directive gain. This requires me to analyze the effect of geometry of the structure and the position of the excitation source on my study. Use of optimization algorithms provides a structure that can improve the coupling efficiency between the quantum emitter used as a light source and the nanostructure providing an optimized nanoantenna.
I also investigate phased arrays based on optical antennas in integrated optical circuits. The objective is to design an antenna using Silicon over the SOI wafers to obtain a maximum upward efficiency having a control over the phase and amplitude of the emission.

Why did I choose this project?
The project requires a good background research and focus to design something new, which is really thriving.
