C06: Integrated measurement-induced nonlinearity with superconducting detectors

What is the challenge of my research project? Why am I eager to do it?
Optical nonlinearities can produce nonclassical effects such as squeezing, quantum superposition and entanglement. These effects may arise from a strongly-pumped nonlinear interaction in a medium, or be induced by measurement outcomes. The advantage of measurement-induced nonlinearity is that it does not require a strong pump field, however, the nonlinearities are generated probabilistically, i.e. only when a desired measurement outcome is detected.

In this project, I investigate the influence of detection on various quantum properties of light. In particular, I model two-mode interferometer with various quantum states inputted and look at how detection influences quantum properties of light.

Why did I choose this project?
The detection is a very important part of quantum information processing and yet it currently stays relatively unexplored. It is a challenging problem and requires numerical experiments for modeling and exploration. That is why this project looks promising and interesting to me.
