More than 80 researchers discuss nonlinear photonics at the annual TRR 142-workshop

This year's workshop of the TRR 142 took place on 11 and 12 November 2024 where the researchers from Paderborn University and TU Dortmund University presented their latest research results. Additionally, external speakers were invited to share their ideas of nonlinear photonics, focusing on the experimental and the theoretical side respectively. A warm THANK YOU for their contribution goes to: Prof. Dr. Ursula Wurstbauer (University of Münster), Prof. Dr. Martin Gärttner (Friedrich-Schiller-University Jena), Prof. Dr. Sebastian Hofferberth (University of Bonn) and Prof. Dr. Antonio Calà Lesina (Leibniz University Hannover).

In a poster session, the specifics of the individual research topics of TRR 142 could be discussed in depth. The Best Poster Award, endowed with a travel grant, was presented to the following winners:

1st Prize: Michael Brauckmann, Emmanuel Narváez Castañeda, Dustin Siebert:
Three-photon state generation with on-chip pump suppression in topological waveguides

2nd Prize: Katharina Franzke
Optical and magnetic properties of ^87Rb lattices at MgO/Ag(111) substrates

3rd Prize: Ruixin Zuo, Cong Ngo
Many-body effects in the nonlinear optical response of two-dimensional systems

The importance of clear and kind communication in a team setting was shown brilliantly in the evening event when the scientists were asked to build a fully functional giant marble run. Well done, everyone!

Successful TRR 142-3 workshop in Bad Sassendorf on 6 and 7 November 2023

With over ninety participants from the various TRR 142 scientific groups, this year's TRR 142 workshop was the largest to date. On 6 + 7 November 2023, the scientists presented their research results from the past year and exchanged ideas with invited guest scientists on the latest developments in the field of nonlinear photonics.

In addition to the presentations from the groups, Prof Dr Jonathan Finley (Technical University of Munich), Prof Dr Maria Chekhova (Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light, Erlangen) and PD Dr Matthias Kleinmann (University of Siegen) gave insights into their research.

In a poster session, the specifics of the individual research topics of TRR 142 were discussed in depth. The Best Poster Award, endowed with a travel grant, was presented to the following winners:

- Lukas Hanscke: Electrical Tunable Single Photon Emitters (1st prize)
- René Geromel and Falco Meier: GaAs metasurfaces for enhanced second harmonic generation (2nd prize)
- Nina Lange: Cavity-enhanced SPDC with temporal filtering using integrated superconducting detectors (3rd prize)
- Helene Wetter: Near-field coupled nonlocal optical metasurfaces for polarisation conversion (3rd prize)
